I’ve Always Wanted to Try Cow Foot Soup!

It’s Wanderfood Wednesday, and look what I just found! A photo from the little restaurant on the streets of Caye Caulker, Belize, where I had my first meal. And, while I opted out of the cow foot soup, I did have a lovely meal of stewed shrimp with rice and fried plantains smothered with Marie Sharps fiery hot sauce!

We just loved Vern’s restaurant, off the main street near the school/residential area. I’m not sure where the dog that sat underneath our table during dinner went, though. He must be camera shy!

I need to go back to Belize so I can stock up on that delicious hot sauce. And, who knows, maybe next time I’ll be brave enough to try cow foot soup?

Adventure on a plate,

Kristen

  1. My dad says his mother used to make cow’s foot jell-o when he was a boy, and he loved it — complete with the smell of scorched cattle hair as my grandmother roasted the cow’s foot over the gas burner.

One Thanksgiving, my mom and I tried to recreate my dad’s childhood memory, but that’s a long story for another day…!
